"LISTLESS"

Tom's Words In His Own Words

This song began with fascination over the sound of the chords in 4 bars. From there, it modulates to a new section based on the IV chord (D). It struck me as being a bit dreamy and introspective. From there, it’s a little about some of my thoughts, perhaps on a rainy day, when I have no place to be but inside my own head.

WHAT WAS THE PROCESS OF CREATING "LISTLESS"?

This bluesy, very moody and soulful song wandered into my consciousness several years ago. It was a 4-bar piano riff that I used to segue into another chord sequence/section. This gave me two verses and a chorus.

The next section came naturally but Andy had another idea and suggested a completely new section in an odd meter (12/8). He also felt like we should bring the piece back to where we left off before the 12/8 section and we reprised the 1st chorus, then repeated the 12/8 section. It was just fun to write/arrange but I had a great time working with Andy. He’s a great musician and songwriter!

I created the bass line for the verses but I couldn’t play the right and left hand together. Andy had no problem putting them together. Bassist John Gingerich did a great job on this, and all the songs!
